In November 2024, three people were fatally stabbed in a random, unprovoked spree across Manhattan. Ramon Rivera, a 51-year-old homeless man with a history of mental health and criminal issues, was arrested and charged with the murders. He later confessed to the killings. 


Timeline of the attacks
On the morning of Monday, November 18, 2024, Rivera carried out three separate attacks within a three-hour window.

  • First victim: Angel Lata Landi, a 36-year-old construction worker, was fatally stabbed near 19th Street and 10th Avenue in Chelsea.
  • Second victim: Approximately two hours later, 67-year-old Chang Wang was stabbed while fishing off the East River Esplanade near 30th Street.
  • Third victim: A 36-year-old woman, Wilma Augustin, was attacked just half an hour later near the United Nations headquarters at 42nd Street and First Avenue. She died at the hospital from her injuries.                     

Capture of the suspect
An Uber driver witnessed the third attack and followed the suspect, alerting police.
Rivera was apprehended by a veteran officer near East 46th Street and First Avenue.
Two large kitchen knives, one covered in blood, were found in his bag.
